Called the greatest horse that ever looked through a bridle by his trainer Grover “Bud” Delp, Spectacular Bid was the last of the legion of horses that turned the 1970s into a special time for racing. Bid died of a heart attack June 9 in Unadilla, N.Y. He was 27 years old.
