SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Grade 1 NetJets King’s Bishop first came down to a stretch-long duel between Vineyard Haven and Capt. Candyman Can, which Vineyard Haven won by a head. The it came down to a stewards’ decision when Javier Castellano on Capt. Candyman Can claimed foul on the winner for bumping.

OCEANPORT, N.J. – Don’tgetsuspicious won a spirited stretch battle to capture the $70,000 Miss Woodford Stakes by a nose at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

In the co-featured $60,000 Junior Champion Stakes, which was taken off turf and run over a sloppy main track, Dell Ridge Farm’s Kid Kate rolled to a nearly four-length victory to remain unbeaten in two career starts.



Music Note sings a sweet tune in Ballerina win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Music Note proved she isn’t quite washed up yet when she pulled away from Indian Blessing in the stretch to win the Grade 1 Ballerina on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course.  Given a masterful ride by Rajiv Maragh, she waited to show her best after coming off the turn in the seven-furlong race over a sloppy track.



Rosebud’s Ridge wins Susan’s Girl at Calder

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Angel Quiroz’ 2-year-old filly Rosebud’s Ridge made her stakes debut a winning one in taking the $150,000 Susan’s Girl Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes at Calder’s Juvenile Showcase on Saturday.  Coming off her maiden win, Rosebud’s Ridge was a longshot in the Susan’s Girl, but took the field from gate to wire under jockey Cecilio Penalba for trainer and breeder Herman Wilensky.



Wave Me By posts upset in Seacliff Stakes

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Gilbert Campbell’s homebred 2-year-old gelding Wave Me By won the $100,000 Seacliff Stakes at Calder’s Juvenile Showcase on Saturday.  Trainer Kathleen O’Connell and jockey Eduardo Nunez teamed up to score their second win of the afternoon as they also won the first race on the card for 2-year-olds.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Brenda Tabraue’s 2-year-old filly Miss Delite passed the pacesetting Winey Taylor in deep stretch to win the $100,000 Catcharisingstar Stakes at Calder Race Course’s Juvenile Showcase on Saturday.  Luis Arango was the winning jockey for trainer Pablo Andrade.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Sara Louise hadn’t raced since Nov. 29, 2008, when she was beaten by Rachel Alexandra in the mile-and-a-sixteenth Golden Rod at Churchill Downs. Saturday she returned to her game, which is sprinting, and scored a two-length win in the Grade 3 Victory Ride over a sloppy track at Saratoga Race Course.



Get Stormy wires Lure on gloomy day at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Get Stormy lived up to the nasty weather conditions on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course and went wire to wire in the Lure Stakes at a mile on the inner turf course. Overnight rains pelted the track and the Lure was one of three turf races left on the soft grass. The main track was listed as sloppy.



Travers’ jockeys to donate 10% of purse earnings to injured rider

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Jockeys riding in Saturday’s Grade 1, $1 million Shadwell Travers Stakes have pledged 10 percent of their purse earnings from the race to establish a fund for 23-year-old apprentice jockey Michael Straight, who was critically injured in a fall at Arlington Park on Wednesday.
