 OCEANPORT, N.J. – The $150,000 Sapling Stakes (Grade 3) for 2-year-olds on Saturday, Sept. 5, and the $175,000 Red Bank Stakes (Grade 3) for older turf horses on Sunday, Sept. 6, will close out Monmouth Park’s schedule of graded stakes event for the 2009 season.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Veteran horseman Bill White sent out Donald Dizney’s 3-year-old homebred gelding Regis to capture the fifth race Friday at Calder Race Course to take a lead of one over Marty Wolfson in the trainers’ standings (28-27) after 75 days of the session, a competitive title chase likely to continue day-to-day in sharp contrast to the top of the jockeys’ leader board.

Meadowlands Cup leads thoroughbred meet stakes schedule

Four graded stakes events, topped by the $300,000 Grade 2 Meadowlands Cup on Friday, Oct. 16, highlight the schedule for the 2009 Thoroughbred Meet, Oct. 1 – Dec. 5, at Meadowlands Racetrack.   The 47-day meet, which features just over $1.4 million in stakes purses, kicks off with a trio of special matinee cards Thursday, Oct. 1 – Saturday, Oct. 3.  Post time is 1:10 p.m.
