Rain forces Santa Anita to cancel racing; Sham reset for March 6

ARCADIA, Calif. — Santa Anita officials announced that live racing for Saturday has been canceled because of heavy overnight and early morning rain, which was expected to continue throughout the afternoon. The announcement was made at 9:45 a.m.

The Sham Stakes at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. didn’t attract any of the ‘top’ 3-year-olds on the West Coast, but the Grade 3 is worth $150,000 with $90,000 going to the winner. If any of the trainers and owners with horses in the Sham has Triple Crown aspirations, the $90,000 would go a long way to securing a spot in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs.
