California Flag – Trainer Brian Koriner was all smiles Monday morning following a bullet work by the 5yo gelded son of Avenue of Flags in preparation for Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at 6 1/2f on Santa Anita’s downhill turf course.
Riding a three-race win streak, California Flag sizzled 4f on the main turf track in 48 flat, inspiring Koriner to say, “Everything is just perfect right now.”

Cloudy’s Knight – The 9yo gelding Cloudy’s Knight arrived at Santa Anita from Louisville Monday morning for a start in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon.
The son of Lord Avie, who has won more than $2.2 million in a 38-race career, is undefeated in two starts since joining the stable of trainer Jonathan Sheppard, who saddled him for victories in the Kentucky Cup Turf at Kentucky Downs and the Sycamore at Keeneland.

Aikenite –Dogwood Stable’s Aikenite, narrowly beaten in Keeneland’s Breeders’ Futurity last month, will depart from New York for California Tuesday.
“He ran a big race time, showed he could handle the synthetics in the Breeders’ Futurity,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He’s definitely improving race-by-race.”
