GAME ON DUDE, RADIOHEAD AND MINER’S RESERVE WIN 3-YEAR-OLD RACES SATURDAY

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Gary and Mary West’s 3-year-old Best Actor worked a strong five furlongs in a ‘bullet’ 59 3/5 Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park for trainer Wayne Catalano in preparation for his yet to be determined next start with several options under consideration.

A $230,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Rock Hard Ten, Best Actor finished third last out behind Drosselmeyer in a 1 1/8 miles allowance race over the track on Jan. 31, beaten 3 ¼ lengths, after a four-length maiden score going a mile here on Jan. 7 in his 3-year-old debut.

“He ran a good race in his last start, but the race didn’t develop the way I had hoped and I didn’t get quite the result (win) I wanted,” said Catalano. “He came up with a big number (sheets), I guess because of the way the race was run, and indicated to me that he needed some more spacing before running him back.

“He’s training great and is nominated for several Derbies and also has his condition (‘a other than’ allowance). I just haven’t picked the spot yet,” said Catalano, who hit the 2,000 career victory milestone on Wednesday sending out a winner from his small division stabled at Hawthorne during the winter.

Game on Dude won a one-mile maiden special weight on Saturday afternoon at Gulfstream with Our Dark Knight second and Trinity Run third.

Radiohead won a one-mile allowance race impressively as he pulled away from the rest down the lane. Homeboykris was second and Call Shot was third. Radiohead last ran in the Breeders’s Cup Juvenile in early November at Santa Anita in which he had a troubled trip and didn’t hit the board.

Miner’s Reserve won another maiden special weight beating Bushwhacked and Forward Harch.

Another prominent 3-year-old on the Saturday morning work tab at Gulfstream was Chasing Dreams Racing 2008 LLC’s Noble’s Promise, timed a tick slower than Best Actor at 59 4/5 for trainer Ken McPeek, as he prepares for his 3-year-old debut expected to come in the $300,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) going 1 1/16 miles at Oaklawn Park on Sat., Mar. 13.

A son of Cuvee, Noble’s Promise ranked high among the nation’s top 2-year-olds last year, winning the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland, finishing a game third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita and second last out in the CashCall Futurity (G1) at Hollywood Park on Dec. 19, beaten three-quarters of a length by Lookin at Lucky, the latter subsequently voted Eclipse champion for the division

Ironically, Noble’s Promise could face Lookin at Lucky for a third straight time in the Rebel as trainer Bob Baffert has indicated that he is seriously considering shipping him from California to Oaklawn for his 3-year-old debut.

A $150,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Forest Wildcat, Outlaw Man is with a small division McPeek is maintaining this winter at Santa Anita and broke his maiden going 1 1/8 miles on turf there last out on Jan. 27. The stable’s biggest success at the meet so far was the victory of 4-year-old filly Striking Dancer in the La Canada Stakes (G2) on Feb. 14.
