DEL MAR, Calif. – Holding Her Ground was sent to the front shortly after the start by jockey Christian Santiago Reyes and never looked back as she led from wire-to-wire to win today’s feature race in a $54 upset.

The longest shot at 26-1 in a field of six older fillies and mares, Holding Her Ground prevailed by 1 1/4  lengths over 9-5 favored Fund Raiser, with Heartless Vixen third and Via Veneto fourth. Five Silver Stars was withdrawn from the original field.

Holding Her Ground, a daughter of Put It Back owned and trained by Bobby Grayson, sped the six furlongs in 1:09.65 and returned $54, $20.40 and $4.40 across the board after her third victory in a dozen starts.

Runner-up Fund Raiser paid $4.20 and $2.80, while Heartless Vixen returned $3 to show.

On an afternoon that was otherwise formful, Holding Her Ground’s surprise triumph keyed a Pick Six carryover of  $103,938 into Friday’s program which begins at 4 p.m.

Thursday’s attendance was 9,916.
