Aqueduct Racetrack – Saturday, March 22 – Race 8 – Excelsior Stakes – post time: 4:43 p.m. EDT

Percussion (4): One last chance for this horse. This race sets up very well for him. I am hoping that his jockey realizes that he is the fastest horse in the field if he choses to go early. His best races have been when he has choses to go to the lead right out of the gate. I don’t see anyone in this small field being able to keep up with him if he choses to go right from the start. I will give him one last chance at 6-1, which might go up if the entry takes a lot of money.

Long River (1): Was briefly on the Derby trail last year running in the Jerome and the Withers but was not at that level so the connections shut him down. Since he has come back he has had three wins and a place, two of these wins coming in stakes of this level. He be sitting close to the pace and is the most talented horse in the filed but 2-5 is not how to make money at the track.

Romansh (1A): There is not much else to turn to in this race, so I went with the second half of the entry for the third spot. There is no doubt this horse has all the talent in the world but if he doesn’t have things go his way he packs it up and quits. Maybe this will be the race he proves himself but at 2-5 and paired up with the entry I would restrict him to exotics.

Matt’s picks: 4-1-1a
