OLDSMAR, Fla. – The $65,0000 Wayward Lass Stakes has attracted the entries of eight older fillies and mares who will cover 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Tampa Bay Downs in Saturday’s eighth race. Highlighting the field is Moon Catcher, a 5-year-old Malibu Moon mare under the care of top national trainer Christophe Clement. Moon Catcher has earned $704,450 in her career, which includes victories in the Grade II Delaware Oaks, the $180,000 Susan’s Girl Breeders’ Cup, the Maryland Millions Oaks and the Emergency Nurse Stakes. The mare has won at the 1 1/16 miles distance three times from five attempts, and will have the services of Tampa Bay Downs’s leading rider Daniel Centeno.

Star Operator has continuously improved since her arrival at Tampa Bay Downs this winter; the five-year-old Quaker Ridge mare has scored a third-place finish in the Minaret Stakes as well as a second in the Manatee Stakes under the handling of top Tampa trainer Kirk Ziadie. Star Operator posted a bullet work on Feb. 17, travelling three furlongs in :35.3.

Marilyn Seltzer’s 4-year-old filly Amazing returns to Florida from her last start in the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff, which she missed by seven lengths. The Florida-bred daughter of Greatness has accrued $201,935 in her 13 race career, and has finished in the money in seven of those attempts.

Finish Lines … Tampa’s leading rider Daniel Centeno added three move victories to his tally Friday; Centeno has now accrued 84 victories in 53 days of racing at Tampa, and is now ranked as the second leading rider in the nation by number of wins at the time of this writing.

Centeno got his first win aboard Mahvelous Bert, a 5-year-old Tactical Cat gelding under the care of trainer Matteo Pecoraro for owner Richard Luciano. Centeno scored again with Waitingfor Tonight; the 4-year-old Palance filly was bred in Florida by Isaac Muhtar, is owned by Juan Arriagada and is trained by Nabu Morales. Centeno rounded out his hat trick with My Kim. The Full Mandate filly was bred in Florida by Don and Pam Maddox and was conditioned to victory by Jason Servis for owners Vicki and William C. Poston.
