LEXINGTON, Ky. – Keeneland officials today announced that former trainer Frank Brothers will join the sales staff as a member of the yearling inspection team. Brothers will replace Dr. A. Gary Lavin, who will be retiring this year after 16 years.

“We are delighted to have Frankie on our inspection team,” said Director of Sales Geoffrey Russell. “He is widely recognized and respected for his keen horsemanship, and his exceptional ability to evaluate young stock is evidenced by the highly successful horses that he has purchased over the years.”

“It’s an honor to be part of the Keeneland inspection team,” Brothers said. “Keeneland has been a very special place to me since I began racing here in the early seventies.  Having recently retired from a wonderful training career, being part of the Keeneland team will keep me around young horses, which I love, at the greatest place in the world for sales and racing.”

Brothers began as an assistant in the early 1970s to Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg, and opened his own stable in 1980. He retired from training in March 2009.  Among his more than 280 stakes winners are 1991 Preakness (G1) and Belmont (G1) winner and champion colt Hansel; 1997 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2) winner Pulpit; and Grade 1 winners First Samurai, Madcap Escapade, Arch and Oath.
