MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- Calder Race Course has placed three barns under quarantine after a horse tested positive for Equine Herpesvirus (EVH-1) Monday at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.  The horse had been showing neurological symptoms over the weekend at Calder and was sent to the school in Gainesville, Fla. on Sunday.

The result was made known Monday.

The quarantine will not allow horses to ship in or out of the three barns at Calder for three weeks.  Horses residing in these barns are not permitted to train with the rest of the population during this time, but have access to the main track on non-race days following general training hours and to the training track on race days, also after general training hours.

In another measure, no horses may ship into Calder for two weeks beginning Nov. 30.  Calder is working with the Florida Department of Agriculture and its Division of Animal Industry to take precautions regarding EVH-1, a contagious disease spread among horses with flu like symptoms, including fever or respiratory infection.
