LAUREL, Md. – After winning aboard three of his four mounts this afternoon at Laurel Park, journeyman rider Luis Garcia is now two wins away from registering his 1,000th victory.

Garcia was aboard Rabbitoutofmyhat ($14.20) when the bay colt rallied to win today’s fifth race. He returned to the winners’ circle after the eighth race when Cool Punch ($5.60) drew off to a popular score. He completed his riding triple as first time starter Agapantha ($11.20) rallied to win the finale for trainer Michael Matz.

“I am not trying to think about the number,” Garcia said. “It would be amazing. Not many riders win that many races and this is just my seventh year. I am getting excited and hopefully it happens soon.”

The 25-year-old has won 645 races at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course and has been a top ten rider in the colony since arriving in 2003.

The Puerto Rican native is named aboard five horses on Friday’s nine-race card at Laurel.
